January 5th, 2019: Dammie

In January 2019, my friend Dammie was in town and wanted to hang out. I hadn't seen her in a few years, so I thought it would be fun to get some pictures of her. I also thought it would be a good chance to get the year started on a good foot in terms of photography, because I wanted to improve my skills by taking more photos. After eating delicious Mexican food (I highly recommend Cantina Laredo if you're down in the Gilbert area), we went to the Riparian Reserve at Water Ranch and took pictures.

During the shoot, I tried to be more conscious of how my shot was composed before actually taking the picture. I also paid attention to the focus point and made sure to focus on the eyes. I finally learned how to control exactly which focus point my camera uses, so I played around with that feature a lot.

This shoot was the first time since 2017 that I've busted out the 75-300mm zoom lens for a portrait. I was aiming for a specific look (blurry background), and I knew for a fact that using this lens would give me the result I was looking for. This was also my first time shooting completely in RAW. I used to shoot RAW + JPEG, but then I realized that I wouldn't ever go back and edit the RAW files (maybe a few here and there that were underexposed, but not much more than that).

I am extremely proud of how this photo shoot turned out. I felt really confident about what I was doing, and I believe that confidence allowed me to create a consistent look.
