In July 2017 my friend Kristen had recently gotten engaged to her fiancé Joe, and I really wanted to retry doing a couple's shoot. I asked if they would be down to pose for some pictures and they said yes. Kristen knew about a park in Scottsdale that has a statue that spells out LOVE, and obviously that would be the perfect spot for a couple's shoot.
My main goal with this shoot was to be more conscious of couple's poses so that my subjects didn't look awkward, remembering the feedback I received from my last couple's shoot. I also wanted to get some creative shots of Kristen and Joe holding hands so that I could focus on Kristen's engagement ring.
I had a different technical approach with this shoot: Instead of repeatedly switching back and forth between my 18-55mm lens and my 75-300mm lens, I started off with the 18-55mm, got several shots with it, then used the 75-300mm to get more shots with a blurry background. I then went back to the 18-55mm so that I could get some shots of Kristen and Joe with the LOVE statue, seeing as the 75-300mm wasn't wide enough.
Fun fact, This was my first time doing a photoshoot in the middle of the day. Kristen and Joe were only available at 2pm, in July, in Arizona. Naturally it was hot as hell. My only saving grace was that there was a tree that provided plenty of shade to help diffuse the light. Even so, this is probably one of the fastest photoshoots that I've done so far.
In spite of the heat, I had a lot of fun on this shoot. Kristen and Joe have been together since 2010; they are so in love and are such an amazing couple. The chemistry between them was adorable and they fed off of each other so well.
